Milwaukie Celebrates with Two Popular Holidays Event

The City of Milwaukie will host two popular family events this December: the Umbrella Parade and Tree Lighting on Saturday, December 6th, 2008 and the annual Winter Solstice Celebration as the Christmas Ships pass by on Friday, December 12th, 2008.

Umbrella Parade 2007The Milwaukie Umbrella Parade & Tree Lighting Saturday December 6th 4:30pm

Please decorate an umbrella and join us for the Milwaukie Umbrella Parade and Tree Lighting on Saturday December 6th. The parade commences at 4:30pm and the Tree Lighting will be held in front of City Hall at 5:30pm. Parade participants should convene in the Waldorf School parking lot by 4:15 p.m. (21st and Monroe) and the Milwaukie High School Marching band will lead the procession up Main Street and back to City Hall where the festivities will be capped with the Tree Lighting at 5:30 p.m. City Hall is located a 10722 SE Main Street. Santa Claus will join the festivities and treats will be served! Food and unwrapped toys (for up to age 14) will be collected at this event to benefit the Ledding Library toy drive and the Annie Ross House. This event is free and all ages are encouraged to participate! Winter Solstice and Christmas Ships Celebration Friday December 12th 6:00 pm

Come warm by the bonfire and watch the Christmas Ship fleet cruise the Willamette River at the Jefferson Street Boat Ramp at Milwaukie's Riverfront Park. Ships are scheduled to come by around 7pm and the Dickens Carolers will perform from 6pm to 7pm.  Local groups will be selling cocoa, coffee, and desserts to benefit the Milwaukie High School senior graduation party--so bring cash and an appetite. This annual event draws hundreds of people and is a fun time for the whole family. This event is free and all ages are encouraged to participate!
